Two protections, distinct commercial objectives.
Copyright protects original intellectual works, including texts, courses, educational content, illustrations, photography, music, and architectural plans. Official registration provides incontrovertible proof of authorship and creation date.
Industrial design protects the ornamental aesthetic shape of an object or an original pattern of lines and colors applied to a product, provided it is new and original. Product packaging, furniture, footwear, and consumer electronics are prime examples.
Abstract ideas, business methods, and isolated names are not protected by copyright. For company and product names, the correct route is trademark registration.

For industrial design, the law allows filing up to 180 days after the first public disclosure by the creator. After this grace period, public disclosure destroys novelty and prevents registration.
